The start of Coast & Canine Collective

This whole thing started with a dog, a cat, a primary school aged child, and a whole lot of quiet frustration.

I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback who thinks the beach is a lifestyle, not a sometimes activity. I also have a Burmese cat who judges everything I do, including my life choices. Add a growing human who needs snacks at all times, and suddenly the small stuff matters. Life is busy, noisy, sandy, and never quite as coordinated as planned.

What really got me though were dog collars and leashes that just did not cut it. They faded in salt water, rusted faster than expected, or came in colours that were almost the same, but not quite, which somehow felt worse than not matching at all. Functional but tragic. Cute but flimsy. Strong but ugly. Surely, we could do better.

So, I started making my own and searching for options that match my standard.

What began as a practical solution quickly turned into an obsession with quality, durability, and gear that actually looks good while surviving real life. Beach swims. Mud. Rain. Daily walks. Dogs that pull like they have somewhere important to be. The lot.

Now I create and curate collars and leashes designed for dogs who live properly. Gear that feels good holding it and doesn't cut through your hands or gives you rope burns. Some pieces are handmade. Others are carefully selected nylon and neoprene gear with and without traffic handles. All of them finished with quality hardware that can keep up with strong dogs and salty air.

Everything I make or stock is chosen because I would happily put it on my own dog, knowing full well he is going to test it immediately.

If you are juggling kids, grandkids, dogs, work and life or are tired of replacing collars, fed up with mismatched sets, or just want gear that works hard and looks good doing it, you are in the right place.

The dog approves. The cat remains unconvinced. I think we are onto something.

Love,
